Self-Employed DBS Costs Explained
Fee Structure
The fees for a self-employed DBS Application come in two parts when using an DBS Umbrella Company. To apply for your DBS check, visit our application page.
1. Disclosure & Barring Charge
This is the Fee that the Disclosure & Barring Service charge to process a DBS Application. You pay these to us as a disbursement, which we pass directly to the DBS. These fees are VAT exempt, meaning there is no added VAT at any point.
These will be identical regardless of which DBS Umbrella company you use.
They currently are:
- Basic DBS – £21.50
- Standard DBS check – £21.50
- Enhanced DBS check – £49.50
- Enhanced DBS with Barred List Checks – £49.50
The DBS Fee for volunteer qualifying roles is free. However, this doesn’t apply in self-employed eligibility. See our frequently asked questions for more details.
2. DBS Umbrella Admin Fees
These are the fees charged by the DBS Umbrella company for their services. For self-employed DBS prices, these will vary from company to company. Browse our DBS checks by occupation to see which option suits your role. Our admin fees are listed above. These are subject to VAT.
Transparent Pricing
Clear Invoicing
Applicants are only asked to pay once their DBS application has been fully completed and they have confirmed the level of DBS Check they need. At that point, an invoice is issued showing the exact amount due. Payment can then be made online or by bank transfer.
There are no hidden charges or unexpected costs. Applicants will only ever be asked to pay the amount clearly shown on the invoice, and only when the application is ready to be submitted. No payment is taken in advance, and no work is started until the requested payment has been made, so there is no risk of surprise fees or unintended commitments later in the process.
If an Applicant chooses NOT to progress at that point, then after 28 days their application is deleted, and there are no payments owing.
